Well, if any one has been following this blog for any amount of time, you'll know that Katlyn planted a vegetable garden in our backyard. We planted cucumbers, radishes and carrots. It's been almost 2 months and we've harvested a bunch of puny radishes but that's it.
Our lovely neighbor Yolanda pictured here came yesterday and looked at all the green things we had growing to try and help us identify what we had.
Well, it turns out that we have a batch of cucumber plants
3 tiny carrot sprouts
and tons and tons of weeds. Can you believe that? All of our efforts and we got weeds! Here are pictures of our real sprouts. Also Yolanda gave us two tomato plants and a parsley plant.

Devi put Gabriel in his swing today and for the first time he seemed to be able to see the little duckies hanging above him. See...

Daddy's Campout
Last weekend Rudy and the kids set up the tent in the backyard and slept in it that night. They had sleeping bas and lanters. They said it was fun but I noticed everyone was a little cranky the next day. We're really spoiled with our air mattresses! Oh yeah, our husky Maya slept out there with them too. She slept outside the tent but looked very protective!

Katlyn's first Horse Show
On Sunday Katlyn rode in her very first show. It was a class based show where the novice students rode as a group and gave the horses and students experience with the judging procedures without all the pressure of performing alone. She rode in three shows and placed sixth in one of the three. Here are some photos and a video if I can get it to upload.
Susan's (she is Katlyn and Devi's instructor) other two students Stevie and Dana also rode in the show.

Devi's first lesson
We are very proud of Devi. She has been doing some work for me in my office and some babysitting to save up money for horse riding lessons. I explained that she'd have to make a committment and save 2 months worth of lessons before she could start that way she's ahead of the game. Well, yesterday was her first lesson. She got her "paycheck" from me this weekend and has managed to save $135. That was enough for the lessons AND her boots! She was really exicted and did a great job. Here are some pictures!

Egyptian Walking Onion
While at horse riding lessons Katlyn was a given a new plant to put in her garden. We're already growing cucumbers, radishes and carrots. This is a unique plant though. Michael (horse riding instructor's husband) is a master gardener and knows a LOT about plants and gardens. He explained to Katlyn how this "walking" onion will move around the garden with its little legs and plant new onions all over the place. Here's a more technical description from a gardening site:
Egyptian Walking Onions aren't the big, round globes you think of as onions. Egyptian Walking Onions are much smaller bulbs that offer the double bonus of forming smaller bulblets on top of their stems in clusters, kind of like a freaky flower head. You can eat either end, but usually you eat the bulbs from the ground and plant the bulblets for more onions. They get the moniker Walking because if you don't harvest the bulbs, these perennial plants will walk their way across your garden.

New Shoes
Gabriel wore his new shoes today. He is growing so fast. Just 4 weeks ago they were way to big. In this photo he's actually blowing his Nana a kiss.

Isotopes Baseball
Yesterday we went to an Isotopes Baseball Game. We had a lot of fun although it was very hot and our team lost. Our great seats behind homeplate were provided by Kevin Smith at KNR Mortgage. Here are some photos.

Junie B. Jones comes to Albuquerque
For those of you who don't know, Junie B. Jones is a book character from author Barbara Park. She is a delightful, although sometimes bratty little child who kids can follow on day to day adventues through life. Junie B. helped Devi to love reading.
Well, today there was a very special event at our local park featuring Junie B. Jones and her Stupid Smelly Bus.
We took Lori and Matthew and they had a blast.
There was a short show and tell session where Junie B. shared some items from her "Big Pink Trunk of Junk" and then Junie stamped the kids books.
Our friends Mary and Ruth were there too.
Devi and Katlyn were at Horse riding lessons so were unable to go.
